Remeber when microsoft was liek ZOMG WE HAVE NEW IMAGE FORMAT, and was supposed to be like HighDEF quality but compressed to file sizes of a jpeg?! that was like a year or two ago and it was supposed to be the new format used on internet etc...whatever happened to it? Microsoft failed again?

I heard about that, dont think it was ever released, dont know why... maybe they had compression issues???

Well it is Microsoft...but its just an image format, you'd think they could atleast do that right

lol yeah, i mean come on if mac can do it why couldnt microsoft? theres so many out there why not one more... i really think they should redesign the .bmp format though

Personally i think the whole HD craze has become a bit overhyped (being a geek and knowing a bit about the inner workings of "HD" stuff, every time i hear somebody mention it i think it's just market hype BS).

How so? The bitmap format can't really be redone. It could be extended i guess, but in the end it is an exact, pixel-for-pixel save of an image. If you're looking for something that can save images without losing quality (like .bmp) but still want compression to save on filesize, just use .png.they should redesign the .bmp format though
