Recently I noticed my computer getting a bit sluggish, this way with programs running on startup that I didn't even need, such as: MYSQL server running on localhost, quick time, yahoo messenger... etc - Then, I did some things like, defragging and removing style xp, active desktop etc...

So, I got my boot up time down to around 50 seconds, thats from power button to the computer fully loaded and mouse moving. (Yes I realise this is still slow but, I have no idea what else to try :P) One of my dads can do it in about 12 seconds

Any of you care to... contribute... to the list, of... this? :)

This may be totally irrelevant, but when I read the title of this post it made me think of my science class where me and my friends would boot up and shut down our computers and see who could do it fastest, it was awesome.

lol,

i know that antivirus and internet security softwares slow down boot time. Computers can take twice the time just because of this. But well, if you want your PC to be protected...

also, go run and msconfig, and you can mess around with which programs boot up at your start up, so much spyware can be avoided by doing that. The only porgram I have turn on at start up thats not windows related is zone alarm and my computer takes like 2 minutes.

Mine boots almost instantly if I start up as my PC is on nearlly a month at a time sometimes more.

Nortons used to slow mine for some weird reason so I removed it completely ran a registry cleaner & walla now awesome.

Also depends on how many programs you have starting on boot up too, only have the ones you really need.

Mine used to take like 30 seconds but my IDE extension PCI card slows it down by taking like two minutes to scan all devices :)

AH.. yeayea, i know about disabling programs through msconfig... i just darden't disable anything that isn't in program files cos i'm scared my computer isn't going to bootup, rofl. I'm sure m/s wouldn't put stuff in the msconfig startup if it was going to mean your computer isn't going to start up ye?

Stylexp=spyware...Desktop software=a pain. Run adaware and spybot once a week you should make that start type quicker! :)

Mine is pretty quick...
When i turn it on it does a memory scan and that porbably about the longest thing it does oh and the windows XP loading screen,
Oh and the only other time is when i 4gte a CD in my drive it tries to read the CD so it takes longer,
Otherwise its fine..

I recommend trying Tune Up Utilities it does alot of cleaniing things..
Try da umm Trial? lol

Mine is quick most of the time, unless two users are logged on at the same time. I just downloaded new software that helps control what is going on in the backround of my computer, and it will make it faster. I never really have problems with my computer though. I leave it on all the time too.
