I'm trying to get into Illustrator having been a PS guy for years. I once heard that real designers use Illustrator, those who can't use PS. :) Don't know about that, but anyhow here's my problem:

I've Placed a photo into Illustrator that I manipulated in PS. In separate layer above that one I want to place a series of bullets for a list. Problem is they are all coming up weird (to be more descriptive, it would appear as though they are in screen mode or something bizzare in that i get an inverted representation of the bullet....). I'm pretty sure that the bullets are in normal blend mode and that they are 100% opaque but the black doesn't appear from the bullets and the white appears to come through ok. Is it possible that my layer mask from PS is retained in Illustrator? Furthermore, I've tried making sure that the bullets are "arranged to the front" etc... but still once they pass onto the picture the screen effect takes over (they're normal outside the area of the picture black and white, but weird in the pic. as you can see below)

Thks in advance

Unsatisfactory solution: rasterize the symbol and it the bizzare "screen" effect goes away. Any answers as to why?

Merged double post :)
