Just sort of curious
I noticed almost all graphic related forums use invision while the mainstream are phpbb and vbulletin

Why is this?

I use Invision on mine its not as resource heavy as the rest.

Vbulletin runs the better company, but there Forum software is resource intensive.

phpbb has too many exploits

IPB runs the better software.

I would never use phpbb

SMF www.simplemachines.org is also Free Forum Software

Mostly because IPB was free. Everyone downloaded it when it was free so it was popular because it was much better designed than phpBB. And vB is too expensive. It's too bad IPB became buy-only. But I have to say that the 2.1 version looks very good.

I use PHPBB as well as a beefed up mod_security ruleset to block as many explots as possible, never had a problem. I've had hostees complain that our server was insecure because their phpbb forums (5 versions out of date) was hacked. Too bad I have no sympathy.

I like IPB's features, but the skinning engine is :hi: PHPBB I can skin and it's easy to get to do what I want :)

IPB looks more professional than VB IMO.

I haven't noticed. :hi: most of the forums I go to are vb.

vb all the way, searchbots love them. :)

Does the invision board has more features then phpbb?
I did notice it has several mods available which seem to be good for graphic related sites, such as a download section etc.

===========

there aren't really that many members here.
I always thought pixel2life was a really big site, but it aint that huge.
Like it though

I can't skin any of them, it takes too long, and I can't figure anything out in it.

Well i've skinned both IPB and phpBB and I have to say I prefer IPB. phpBB has so many different templates and such that it gets plain confusing. Also there is no *online* editor so I have to do it from home....so my choice is IPB but since they have gone purchaseware I guess the web will turn to freeware which is phpBB

Invision scales well from small forums to very large forums. It's less resource intensive than vB, and is more powerful than phpBB.

Its not that it's more powerful, it's that its more secure. While phpbb is open source :D

I do love the look of IPB over phpbb though. Maybe thats why "graphical art communities" prefer it. Who knows :)

The paid versions are secure. The 1.3.1 Final version people are stuck on is not :)
