Right most people when brushing abstract/grunge backgrounds start of with render clouds then brush from there. This is a simple method I have adopted for more effective brushing. It also helps beginners make good looking sigs without being brushing experts.

1. Go File>New... with these settings:

2. Go Filter>Render>Clouds as so:

3. Go Filter>Sketch>Chrome... with the settings:

Detail - 5
Smoothness - 6

Leaving something a little like this:

4. Go Filter>Render>Lens Flare... with these settings:

The lens flare is so the BG is less repetitive. Its not an essential step just a tip.

From this point just brush layers onto this background as many existing tutorials describe.

I've typed the guide for beginners but this can help advanced sig. makers with the basis of there next sig.

Thank You
