Hello!

I would be interested to know, from you [pro web designers], which tipe of monitors you use? The main problem with the CRTs is that the user's eyes [my eyes, at least...] getting tired in a short time. As I understood, in case of LCD/TFT's this is not an issue. Is this right?

On the other hand, as I saw the LCD/TFTs in the stores, they seem to have not such a clear view/image like the CRTs. Someone told me that if I make the computer-monitor connection via DVI, I'll get a clearer picture [but I have no DVI "out"].

1 - What are your observations regarding to this subject?
2 - Without DVI connection, can I use an LCD for web design?
3 - What is the best "monitor-solution" for a web designer, in order to avoid the eye-problems?

Please give me some experience-based advices.

Thank you, fellows!
Zozo

LCD's are generally more "crisp" than CRT monitors (I'm actually shopping for an LCD now :().

You can get LCD's with a standard VGA interface, or you can upgrade your video card to one that has DVI-out, entirely your option :) DVI is generally better quality images, but myself I wouldn't bother, VGA is alright for me, I don't do heavy gaming, etc ;)

Edit: The best way to prevent eye issues is to take a break. I put in some insane hours sometimes, but at least once every hour to an hour and a half take a 10 or 15 minute break, go for a walk, get some air, etc, then I'm fresh to start again :)

Jaymz,

Thank's for reply... :( You'll use the LCD for web design? What characteristics should have a good LCD? What you'll look after?...

A good refresh rate is important to avoid flicker... make sure it's a trusted brand and you should be fine :(

Well, most of the LCD's you buy thes day all work well. Jut don't get one that's too small, try and get about a 17".

VGA for sure.

I prefer CRT.

IMO better quality, works from all angles and easier on my eyes.

Really? I suppose if you get a flat screen CRT the quality is pretty good, but the easier on the eyes part I don't know about. Your typical CRT emitts MORE harmful light than any LCD...

And I don't know what you're talking about not being able to see it from different angles, I can, except for of fourse looking at it straight up, down left, or right, but when are you not going to look at your monitor straight on?

Definitely... LCD superior colour definition and replication and they don't take up half a room.

The angle thing doesn't really count and isn't a problem anymore (maybe with pocket calculators). My apple screen has a less than 10 degree viewing angle.

Yea I know TFTs emit less laser beams and stuff but they effect my eyes where as CRT's don't, As for the angles its not that you can't see it its just if your lower than your monitor its a lot darker.

I prefer CRT for web design, graphics, and gaming...

In my opinion, its a faster refresh rate for everything, web design, graphics, gaming, etc...

I've also been using CRT's for years (about 7) and my eyes have gotten so used to them I can do almost an entire day w/o taking a break...

Well generally the newest technology is the best isn't it? However I shop for whatever has a thin liner around the actual screen, LDC or CFT. Generally LCDs have very little border around the edges so I buy them.

(The borders of the screen matter to me because I have triple monitors)

LCD! once you get one, you won't want to buy a CRT anymore...

But well, if you care about having "the best graphics", sure CRT is the best but i still prefer LCD, its just perfect.
