Hurricane Katrina has spawned more than misery and destruction--a new wave of scam e-mails and Web sites are exploiting the tragedy.

Phony Web sites and e-mails, purporting to offer help to hurricane victims or provide more news on the destruction, are making their rounds on the Internet, security experts said Thursday.

One spam campaign that's circulating offers breaking news reports but tricks people into clicking a link that takes them to a bogus Web site, according to security firm Sophos. The site attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer and install malicious code, including the Troj/Cgab-A Trojan horse, on a victim's system Sophos said.

I wonder why I'm not surprised to hear about this; it's happened before in previous hurricanes.

I despise the individuals doing this; it's purely pathetic. I always donate anything to the Red Cross.

thats half the reason things are going so badly in New Orleans. The dang sick people looting and shooting people for no reason whatsoever. All they are doing is hurting themselves. If I saw a person commit any act of violence and i were an NG or NOPD I would shoot 'em to kill 'em. I'm dead serious too.

anyway, my dad donated 2500 to red cross I have donated a bit of my own money. those jerks that are scamming people also need to be shot hahahah. im in a shooting mood.

sam ething happened during the Tsunami, and last years Hurricane's that hit me here in Florida. I can't believe how low people will stoop to make money off of people. It's a shame. Sometimes I have to think there are web bots that surf the net and then automatically generate spam based on whatever tragedy strikes

Online con artists have launched at least a dozen scams preying on people donating to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts or seeking news, federal authorities and anti-spam experts say.

The FBI is looking into suspicious Web sites and phishing spam messages that attempt to filch personal data such as credit card numbers

that was predictable...

one thing i dont think was right for bush to do was to get the feds to control the food looting... the poeple where starving and the shop owners will probably throw the food away after... just seems wrong.

sick sods... why is the world based around money so much...
