look at my signiture
autocad is used alot in architectural modelling mainly because the plans are usually drafted in cad and some find it easier and more accurate than say max or c4d. you wont find you will be able to do too much in cad compared to what you will be able to do in max.

since ur going for graphics and just making dazzleing abstract stuff probably, i would say c4d since it makes abstract renders easily, 3ds and max cant do that like c4d can as far as i kno, but max and maya are way better for 3d modeling and animating, but ive still seen some dazzling stuff in c4d, most 3d progs are much related so its just important tat u learn 3d in general

and either way max can do abstract stuff just as well as c4d... all it takes is a few bevels and extrude
max and autocad for architectural rendering, or look into products like archicad and revit - although you will be paying around 3 times as much for them. also theres a nice little program called sketchup, it give you some nice results (even if they are for the most part unrealistic).
i get a feeling this is going to go round in circles like the other 20 odd threads around...
