but you can make better/ find places to find a better pc cheaper...

i think its to do with the fact that they are expensive computers, even the basic is pretty steep, and they have got poeple into thinking alienware is the best.... which must be pretty lucrative... i agree the machines do look slick.. very cool... but its 300 for the case, they are good for gaming... but so is this machine... and i payed ALLOT less :)

its the bling factor!!

yeh im not into gaming, i need it for renderings, needs to be very high performance. but anyways im sure the quality of the pcs are good enough and customisable, but what i really want to know is what are the company like? do you get all the support you are really promised? stuff like that.

i guess im just interested in anyones experiences (good or bad) with alienware...

they tweak them at a hardware level to make them completly unique, not only that but i'm pretty sure they put watercooling in all of them to garentee coolness of the computer (and silence)

i've been considering getting one for awhile now, they are deffinatly great for rendering (as its pretty much the same process as gaming - floating point)

I really dont think they're worth the money. If you know how or are willing to learn, build your own.

As everyone else has said - alienware PCs are spot on for gaming, but only if you've got the cash to spare.
Far better off to build your own (especially if it'll be for rendering). I've built quite a few PCs myself and generally go to the following suppliers -

Novatech
Aria
Overclockers

After a bad experience I now wouldn't touch Ebuyer with a 20ft barge pole (Basically bought a CD drive, turned out to be duff, they refused to refund or repair it even though I got back to them within 28 days).

2 grand? we must be looking at different alienware companies then mate...

the computer im looking at is actually only a bit more expensive than a computer i saw at currys.

but anyways, i didnt ask in my original post for alternatives to buying from alienware, i simply asked if anyone knew of anyone who had bought one before. so could we get back on topic?

No, the money they ask for it are way over the top.

You might as well get a customised dell for less.
