Has anyone else noticed that everybody and their brother are starting "GFX" sites? Most of them not knowing how to spell "graphics"

It seems like if someone learns a little bit of photoshop they think they should start their own graphics web site. I've been told by alot of people that I'm fairly decent in photoshop, but I didn't go start up a graphics website, I started a tutorial site. To share my knowledge of Photoshop, PHP, HTML, etc. :wtf:

Has anyone else noticed this trend? I was just thinking about it as I was going through the "Websites 'R Us" category.

They will always be around here today gone tomorrow and that's not counting the amount of private sites closed to membership then Yahoo and MSN Groups

What I'm seeing is a huge trend in in Tutorial Site Copycats, they are popping up every day.

I make free templates and I have staff so people who are starting out can download them and use them.

It wasn't a slam to people who are actually willing to put the time in.

I'm mostly talking about people that start to design their site, advertise it on a few hundred sites before it's done and never finish it, or if they do, don't update it. If you can be successful at it, congratulations, you did what the masses couldn't!

And my site by far no copy cat. I only let the best tutorials on my site. I aim for unique tutorials. Now I admit, there are a few "been there done that" tutorials on my site, but only 1 or 2, and those are from a friend of mine that doesn't have a site to himself.

it doesent really matter, there are alot of mediocre sites, they really really really suck, and the people on it really really really suck at photoshop, there are only a couple of good gfx sites

Oh, ok.

I thought Maxx-Designs thought I was slamming him.

I didn't say that the sites in "Websites 'R Us" were in that category (actually, 99% of those sites are pretty good). I ment that it simply reminded me of that fact.

Well, I didn't start this topic to argue. I just wanted to ask your opinions of it.

Now that I think about it, there are alot of 30-second-tutorial sites out there now. I'm just glad P2L doesn't accept them

Personal opinion on all these graphic sites popping up, hey why not at least they are doing something constructive and learning at the same time better than being on the streets robbing little old ladies. :wtf:

All of us start somewhere and all of us need our own space to be creative whether it be being involved in a community or having our own little corner of the web.

The web is full of junky sites but to those owners their junk is very precious to them, I'm simply referring to tutorial sites re: these sites that pop up with an instant database of 10,000 tuts etc

And I'm not arguing its a great topic, might help a lot more here actually give proper constructive feedback on sites and remember their very first graphic or website they created.

Speaking of the first... I remember the first "design" of my site... THAT was pitiful. But now that I look back, It just shows how far I've come.

From not even knowing what valid HTML was, to XHTML 1.1 Valid :wtf:

Yes , If a person at this time start a gfx site or a site in any field that he is not good with it might not be appropriate now . but if you see the guy 1-2 years from now he`s a great artist, have great talent in the field . then he can run a successful business out of his talent.
But if the guy starts the site after this 1-2 years, the site would stand no where ! at that point of time he would have to spend another huge amount of time . :(

Lol, I noticed this ages ago when browsing P2L and Zymic, all these review thingys saying 'New GFX site starting up called superubercooldesigns.net and we have tutorials templates etc' OR 'I want to start a site about GFX and templates and tutorials but dont know how to code'. Of course, they aren't written that legibley (sp)...and they inevitable end up sucking.

Basically...theres the big ones that dominate the comp (P2L and Zymic and others which I don't know) and the friends groups ones (a friend of mine had a forum with talented sig artists) then the basically wannabes...P2L basically indexes everything you ever need to know to master PS and other programs, so I don't see the point. A lot are just tutorials copied off other sites as well, and even then, theres only 5 or 6.

I must admit I do want to start one up later on...for now I have to practice. But mine will be more focused on coding, not design, but still have elements of both. And theres no way im starting up until I master photoshop, have a few hundred unique tutorials written down, and around 100 templates for download.

In all honesty it pisses me off seeing so many popping up that have NO future whatsoever, however good luck to the talented designers.

my skip through opinions
- zymic isn't a leader of the trend, or the pack (least i hope to god its not)
- yes, there are alot of copycat gfx sites, but try searching for tutorial listings.. theres been a big boom in people that don't like to produce their own ideas
- HA!
- if you want high quality tutorials, go to Twodded (haha)

end. :)

i got no problem with the many begginner tutorial sites popping up cause thats also the way i started.

the trend i cant stand is the forum-only sites.... THAT is what i call 'not even trying'. although there are a FEW exceptions.

everyone wants a community these days...

heh, well some people like me for example did start making websites when I sucked at photoshop but people thought I was okay, I got better (doesnt mean Im pro at everything) I can make things if I take the time, and I have a site that shows some of my graphics and has tutorials but, its always down cause I never like the design I make :) people goto it and ask if or when I will bring it back up but...Im like meh someday lol...and I dont have mine really tutorials, I just give like things I know about and stuff, its tutorials on all kinds of stuff notjust graphics and programming...

and yes they may popup everyday by the dozens but dont expect to last like donna said, they will just keep practicing until they get a permanent site they like
