I highly doubt that Adobe would choose to exclude XP Home users...

Well Maya did so it does make you wonder.

I have XP Pro on the other PC so going to try when its downloaded.

Alot of programs cut off home, but let 2000 because alot of users still use 2000 because its still secure and probably just as good as XP just not as nice looking on the interface. Thats why almost all programs let requirements goto Windows 2000.

And here is a solution, found it on a forum they were using CS2 and this worked for them, so just browse the folders of CS2 in the same area

Issue

When you start Adobe Photoshop CS, Photoshop CS freezes when the startup screen displays the message "Reading Text Global Resources."

Solution: Delete the New Doc Sizes file.

Delete the New Doc Sizes file (New Doc Sizes.psp) and then start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a New Doc Sizes.psp file during startup.

To delete the New Doc Sizes file:

-- In Windows:

1. Make sure that Windows Explorer shows hidden files and extensions:

a. In Windows Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options.

b. Click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box.

c. In Advanced Settings, select Show Hidden Files And Folders.

d. Deselect Hide Extensions For Known File Types.

e. Click OK.

2. In Windows Explorer, locate the New Doc Sizes.psp file in the Documents and Settings/ [user name] /Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop/8.0/Photoshop CS Settings folder.

3. Right-click the New Doc Sizes.psp file and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.

4. Start Photoshop. If the problem still occurs, a system issue may be causing the problem. To troubleshoot the system, see Related Records.

thanks for that mate, i will have a look when i try reinstall it.

was i imagining things, or did someone ask me about what fonts i had in this thread? had a quick scan through but couldnt see it.

reason i ask is im now back too my original copy of CS ive had for about a year and never had any problems with it. However now on this computer when i try change the font type it freezes adobe? i can write font but its only when i try change the font (before or after its written) it will freeze adobe CS.

Any ideas?

I swear, google is a good thing

16. Check for font problems.

To determine whether a font causes the problem, reduce the number of active TrueType fonts by moving the font files to another location:

Note: Don't move the TrueType fonts installed by Windows. For a list of these fonts, see 326402 , "TrueType Fonts Installed by Windows XP."

1. Create a new folder (for example, C:\TrueType).

2. Open the Windows\Fonts folder.

3. Move TrueType font files, excluding those installed by Windows, from the Windows\Fonts folder to the folder you created in step 1.

4. Restart Windows.

5. Move a few of the fonts from step 3 back to the Windows\Fonts folder.

6. Restart Windows.

7. Start Photoshop, and try to re-create the problem:

-- If the problem recurs, one of the fonts you moved in step 5 may be the cause. Remove those fonts from the Windows\Fonts folder, and repeat steps 4-6, this time adding only one font at a time. When the problem recurs, do one or more of the following:

- If you use a font utility other than the Windows Fonts folder (for example, FontMaster 6.0, included with CorelDRAW 6.0), remove the fonts using that utility. For instructions, refer to the documentation for the utility.

- Remove the font and reinstall it from the original media.

- Contact the font manufacturer to obtain an updated version of the font.

-- If the problem doesn't recur, repeat steps 5-7, testing different fonts.
