Hi all,

Just started a night class on this stuff and am using the demo version at home - so be gentle with me.

I have an assignment to produce a basic animation using primitives only. Now I've thought of an idea but one of the things I want to do I can't work out how to. I want to have an object appear during the animation rather than be there from the start and I just can't work out how to do that.

At the moment we have only been shown keyframing so if I need to do it any other way please give me some hints on that.

Cheers n beers

P.S. Another stupid question - how does one extend the number of default frames from 90?

Just add the object coming in from the camera view it isn't important what you see on the stage but it's important what you see in the final production and you click the time configuration button to add more frames it's at the bottom right of 3ds max beside where you would find zoom, arc, pan icons.

Thanks for the answer, I appreciate the time taken but I have to say that I still don't understand this all yet.

Found the extra frames just fine though. Tx.

Dont have the object in your scene at the beginning, then go to frame 50 for example, add a keyframe, and put your object there. When you animate it, the object wont show up until it gets to that keyframe. Depending on what program you use, i find it also helpful to be safe and put a blank keyframe in the fram before the object appears (say make frame 49 a keyframe without the object in it, then make 50 a keyframe and add the object).

Thanks for the tip. Because I had to get the coursework done I've changed what I was trying to do.

However, I now intend to go back and try out the above - cheers.
