Gettin back into web design after about a 8 year layoff. Much has changed since I have been gone so a lot of this is new to me, especially designing templates in Photoshop. My brother needed a website done and I told him i could help so i could practice and work on skills. Here is a basic layout, but to me it is just too basic and not professional enough. I think the main problem is the fonts. I like the basic colors, banner, and white content box, but the fonts just bug me. Im not really goin for the hi-tech, 3 columns, and all the fancy layout stuff. just looking for critique of my basic layout and any suggestions are welcome.

The colours are nice and subtle... Its a good start... the text for the links I think is too big.
Why dont you try a few Photoshop tuts in the tuts section, they help you get a basic one that looks really great up and running in no time...
Dont worry about the lay off, it will all come back to you, I am going through the same thing Code wise...
Keep at it!

yes, i would suggest the font size for the buttons be smaller and maybe a different but still simple font. Title is good.
