I'm new to 3d max and i am making a basic game with some friends and i need some very basic tuorials on creating characters from scratch. any ideas guys.

another good one and its a video tutorial if u prefer that is over at www.3d-palace.com click on free video tutorials > 3ds max > then its the character one. theres also a lot more if you need something else.

If you were diving into character modelling on your first attempt you would need some hardcore tutorials i mean hardcore which are hard to find for the inexpierenced user, cause at that stage the guy who's giving the tutorial already thinks your capable of using 3ds max in an advanced approach, plus if it's a game your thinking about making you or one of your friends has to know about C++ or some other programming language for making a game in Director or something familiar.

P.S i purchased and took courses for my help so i couldn't tell you where to find such help.

I would personaly suggest staying away from character modeling till you have a better understanding of the How and Why for 3dsm
