Are we ready for yet another disc format? What does this mean for us? The consumers?

A technology that has been in development for a while now, is starting to creat some heat, and it diserves all the heat it can handle. Blu-ray technogology is a technology that that will enable us to store a massive "25 to 50 GB" of data onto one Blu-ray disc.

Big shots such as Dell, HP, Hitachi, LG Electronics, Matsushita (Panasonic), Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Thomson/RCA have already commited to Blu-ray technology. Are you ready for it?

Get the Skinny on Blu-ray technology

I know I'm looking forward to it, but am I ready to fork out the bucks ($$$) for yet another disc writer? Maybe not for a couple of more years.

I had no idea there was another disc technology on the horizon, it sounds very cool, but yeah, not something I think I would be investing in just yet. I think it would be good for large corporations... but the consumers and small businesses I think will not be the target market. DVD has more than enough space at the moment for the small companies to suffice... and not extend their budgets buying technology not suited for them.

Nevertheless, having said that, its still awesome the way technology is progressing dont you think...

You know, it feels almost like it was just yesterday where I was playing with my buddies Commodore. LMAO! We had no idea what we were doing, I remember us spending almost a week copying code from a book so that we can play some game. To this day I do not know what game it was, nor do I remember what it was called.

3 or 4 years later I recall hearing about a "public bulletin board", and just about 7-8 years later I got my first "puter", and decided to get into Web Design.

Now you hear people talking about Fuel Cells that could be out as soon as next year, enabling iPod's to run at an amazing (approx.) 60hrs/charge instead of 6-7 hours by regular means.

Nanotechnology, health monitoring microchips, GPS, cameras the size of pin head and COME ON!! Cloning freakin Sheep !!! What's this world getting to ;)

If you sit back and just think about what we have now - a - days, it just boggles my mind. But of all what we have, it is rather sad that we "still" have not found a way to better the life of 3rd world countries .... poverty, corruption, wars and now the sad truth about Global warming that we are becoming more and more aware of due to natural disasters. The movie "The Day after Tomorrow" doesn't seems as far fetched anymore after the disasters that have struck just this year alone.

The dawn of a new era is upon us ... will we survive? Will the way of our lives evolve quickly enough to keep up? Only time will tell ;)
(OMG that last line was just soooooooooo freakin cheeezy ;) )

LIFT OUT!! B)

Edit:I think I need to take lessons in the art of "K.I.S.S." I don't think I can just do a 1 line post .... some people I tell ya ;)

Judging by the sound of it, Blu-Ray will be alot better than HD-DVD, although they both use blue lasers with lower wavelengths (405nm rather than the red laser's 658nm) and are both the same thickness (1.2mm), Blu-Ray uses one thin layer on top of a thick one (rather than several layers) allowing the laser to focus 'tighter' and make it possible to store a higher amount of data. Blu-ray can store a massive 25gb compared to HD-DVD's 15gb.

I've heard about Blu-Ray, but I haven't really looked into it. Thanks for the heads up Lift. ;)

And yes, I agree entirely with you about Human technology. It has grown at an exponential rate.
