Im looking to buy a new computer for school. Im taking media art & animation. I was thinking of opting for a laptop insteed so i can work on projects anywhere i go, ex. @ work.
Is a high end graphic card realy that necessary? or will shared mem will do fine?

Shared memory is NEVER a good option...If you are doing any kinds of graphical work then you for sure need a decent video card. A desktop replacement would be a good choice instead of a laptop. It's a little bit bigger normally but it's still portable and gives you more power. I carry mine with me about everywhere now and I'm much happier working on it than I would have been on a regular laptop.

thx a bunch, i guess i'll opt for a dedicated card then. There goes my x-mas video game money, lol. ohh well i guess its a better investmen anyho.

I looked at the specs of that laptop and that's a little more money than it's worth. The Sony namebrand carries high $ and doesn't always mean better product. My laptop is over a year old now but it has better specs and equip than that one and I think it's even cheaper than 1400 now. Do some shopping around before you settle on one, there are some good prices out there right now.
