I'm wanting a new graphics card as 128 Radeon 9800SE really sucks! So which graphics card would you suggest? I'd probably use it for gaming mainly. And it's for a 4x AGP slot, although i would like it to be for both 4x and 8x as i'll be buying a new motherboard soon.

Thanks

James.

6200 or 6600. 6200 is a good "cheap" card ($125-170), and 6600 is a quality card, but comes at a price ($170-230)

nVidias has always the most sophisticated hardware, and is also recommended by a few big companies.

Eh... I used to like Nvidia, then I liked ATI, but now... I could really care less since I don't play that many games and if I do My ATI card on my windows machine could probably handle anything... so I'd have to say I like ATI better.... but I wouldn't count out nVidia.

I think nvidia are beggining to lead the market gfx card wise, but for you, with an 8x agp motherboard soon, you should be able to pick up an x700, for about £70, ($170 i think), my mate has just bought one, and as far as i know, its running well and doing whatever he throws at it, so i think that would be a good joice, youd be able to run it, and its not to expensive

I would actually say nvidia have better drivers, ati drivers although good, with every new release, they dont actually do anything better, as such, they just fix bugs, like when loading up a certain game nobody even plays, it makes it point 5 of a second quicker whereas nvidias drivers make everything run better with new releases, and they are much easier to install on linux aswell

I plan to be a linux user, and as far as I know, linux ATI drivers are miserable... so if it was me I'd go for NVidia, always.

Also, my friend has had a lot of problems with ATI, it always breaks or malfunctions... it's barely a year since he bought it, and now his [second] card is running slow, since ATI had to replace his first under warranty when it melted :P

and no, he doesn't overclock... go figure.

indeed. My dad need a new vid card, and we went to Wally world to get a new one, and he thought he'd try an ATI (he knows better, and I warned him). I ended up needing to completely reload his OS because of that card. and after that his computer was really slow, crashed alot, and occasionally didn't boot. We returned the card after a few days and got the nVidia, and all his problems were solved.

i would go for gforce if your into aswell as gaming hardcore graphics then get the 6600 512mb :) but ati are overall much better especally their newest creation seeing as its like half the price of the best gforce and does the same if not better job at rendering...
