So, it's nearing Halloween, and the most voted topic for Halloween was a Pumpkin!

So, rules!

• Only 1 entry per person
  
• Piece must have been started after the start of this comp (meaning no previously made images)
  
• You MUST include some sort of face on the pumpkin
  
• Make sure your P2L name is on the piece somewhere
  
• Entries must be made as a proper vector (using the Pen Tool)
  
• Entries must be in by November 8th

Nope, sorry. Because if you blur it then it isn't really a vector style.

there are alot of vector artists who would beg to differ, it still can be one even if there is postwork done on it.

From what I know, in photoshop at least, if you want to apply a blur you have to rasterize that layer. So it won't be vector and it can't be resized without loss in quality.

You can save the PSD/or any other format without applying any blur/whatever and then save it as image, then apply blur. But I don't think postwork should be allowed.

There are so many flaws in this competition, we really should use a better reference for how to run a vector competition, since it is alot different then other competitions. and i mean honestly, who wants to vector a pumpkin...

I was gonna do that, but I thought it would be a bit boring for everyone to be confined to the same pumpkin vector, I wanted some variation in the face, shape and colour for it.

Btw Ckristian, that is right. And if you save it and then apply a blur, I still also do not think it is a true vector, but then anything saved as an image is always rasterized.

It was what was voted in the poll, and I made it better by adding it that it would be one with a face "carved" in, it can still be interesting.

If you were to look at some of the amazing vector artists on deviantart, who can blow anyone out of the water, alot of them use photoshop as opposed to adobe illustrator. I'm sick of all the stipulations. Most of the greatest vector artists apply attributes to specific layers of the image to make it more organic and smooth.

I've already started... if something good comes out of this, I might make a tutorial out of it... It's my first real vector though I've read ALL KINDS of tutorials and noodled around lots.. I'm going to complete this one. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

True. But if those "attributes" cannot be applied to a vector layer and can only be applied to a rasterized layer then its no longer a vector. It maybe called "vector style" but that's about it. It's not a true vector.

I dont want to add to the confusion, you mentioned using the pen tool only to make the vector, but what about drawing in flash? It has a vector output and works on the same principles of vector.

I'd enter if I could draw in flash

You can use Flash/SwishMax/Microsoft Acrylic/Illustrator/Photoshop/Inkscape/Sodipodi/GIMP. Those are a few I know of.

Out of those Inkscape/Sodipodi/GIMP are freeware/open source.
Microsoft Acrylic is available for download at the Microsoft site. (October CTP preview will run until Jun 30 2006).

So this contest is not limited to people with Photoshop/Illustrator alone.

That acrylic won't setup for me, I downloaded ok but when it goes to install just freezes.

Can we use Flash, since that is entirely vector based, and much easier to work with.
