bryce is about the easiest 3d program you can find, but it just as easy as it is basic, you only get standered shapes which you can strecth and cut out (using boolian objects)
C4D is a bit more complicated, you can acctually model your own objects and distort them how ever you feel like it, you can get a free trial at www.maxon.net, only problem is you can't save
3d studio max is a little better then c4d but quite a bit more complicated, it has more features, isn't exactly easy to figure out right off the bat, and costs $3,000 or you can get a free 30-day trial at www.discreet.com
for starting, i do recommend bryce, then slowly work your way up
