I have learnt what I know from tutorials, asking for help with what I don't understand on forums, and talking to other PHP programmers.
The main thing I found with PHP is that it looks scary when you look at a page of coding. Don't let it scare you. It's all logical underneath...
http://www.php-mysql-tutorial.com/ << Thats a tutorial, but a good one for PHP and MySQL. Takes you from installing PHP and MySQL through to making a shopping cart script. I find http://www.php.net useful too. Its like the dictionary of PHP. When I come across a function I don't know, or don't understand, I look it up on php.net, and find out what it does.

I too learnt from tutorials on this site, php.net, and just working with other peoples code. It's not that hard to pick up, but don't go download phpBB and try and learn from their code, somethings are just to complicated.
First rule of php though, look at php.net before you ask anything.
Although, if you want start to finish instructions, here's the start http://php.net/manua...asic-syntax.php
-Moved to proper category.

lol ^^
I agree on the book suggestion, helps immensely, is always there and easy to find what you want in the index without trawling through a site.
