In photoshop, i'm having trouble slicing a layout that have more than one content box. I understood the tutorial on this site pretty well for one content box, but how would you use the same method for a layout with several. Do you just slice the larger content box first, and then slice the smaller content boxes and put them on the larger one? If this dosen't make much sense, i can try to find a layout. ;)

You can slice up as many squares as you need to. Just cut out a new chunk for each content box you have and make a slice containing any image that may be between the two (or however many) content boxes (like borders). Just be sure that any horizontal slices you make go all the way across the image, it will save you some pain later when you put them together.

Thx for the reply, but the background part you mentioned is where i mess up. I can't figure out a way to go about slicing the background if i have more than one content box. I know it's different for each layout, but i just need to know the basics about slicing a layout, and what to look at to see if the result is going to work out. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Hmm.. ok this is crude but maybe it will get you started in the right direction. Lets say this is your layout, a title bar at top, two content boxes, and a bar for menus or whatever at the bottom.

Slice one contains your title bar. Slice 2 contains the top border for your two content boxes. Slice 3 contains the left border for content box 1, slice 5 contains the middle borders for the content boxes, and slice 7 contains the right border for the second content box. Slices 4 and 6 are the content boxes themselves and contain only what would be in the background of the content. Then the rest of the slices are pretty self explainitory, 8 is the bottom border of the content boxes and then 9 is a footer. Of course you can add more slices if you add in buttons or something, but that at least shows how to slice up two content boxes. if the boxes arent the same size or arent parallel with each other then you can slice them accordingly but you will have to do some extra table dividing in dreamweaver or whatever to get them laid out properly.

ok if u still dont understand, i got an idea

basically, when you slice a page, dont slice in a way so that everything is sliced. What u should do is slice only the places that will be replaced with contents.

If u want more help PM me, and i can help u further
