Try this:
<head>
<title>My web page</title>
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" >
</head>
Then upload your icon file to your root directory. Your icon must be in .ico format and have the name favicon.ico ('favicon.ico' is the standard name used, don't change it and you'll have better compatability with browsers and how they cache the thing)
Things to remember about creating your icon:
1-total of 265 pixels
2-Must be 16x16 square
3-Pallet of 16 colors
4-Must be saved in ICO format (you may wanna grab a free icon editor.)
Hope that helps

yes. it appears in the favorites window and in the url...and if you use tabbed browsing, in the tab as well.Is the the little icon next to the url? And the icon that is saved into your favourites list?
First thing you do is make it. I made mine by making a 64x64pixel image in paint, then resizing it to 16x16, save as bitmap...then upload it, and change the extension to .ico, and use that piece of code up there already provided.
