Why does it do this in FireFox and not IE?

why does it have the spaces at the top and bottom of the text in FireFox and not IE

I'm not sure what "it" is, but i know the answer. It's simply because Firefox is not IE, they are two different browsers running with 2 different sets of rules on how to display things.

Most will say IE will display stuff wrong, and that tends to be true. You're just going to have to modify your CSS (or other method of styling) to fix the problem.

If you're using CSS to layout your boxes you can edit the margins to look how you want it to in firefox (whereas it'll then look wrong in IE), and then use a conditional statement to specify different parameters for IE.
