Is there any way I can use an image-pattern as a border? I was thinking something like:
border-left: picture.png

its impossible, but theres alternatives. what i would do it put that div inside another containing div and use the background image in the containing div.

then add padding to the left so it appears like its a border.

or unless your borders aren't that complex, CSS has some predefined style borders you can use instead of the "solid" one...

Damned! Hmm... Once again - damned. What I need is really an image-border that expands with the content. Well, I'll try it out, and come back for more help later (trust me - I'm going to need it)
