Someone named simply "Bob" sent an email through the P2L contact form and did not leave a valid email address for me to respond to. So just in case, I'll post his question and my answer here, and maybe he'll see it
Here's his question:
Quote
I have an image (Corel Painter 9) that is 24\' x 18\' at 360 pixels per inch.
A client wants it printed at 72\' x 54\' - 3 times it original size.
My question: will it become pixelated or distorted when it goes that large?
Thanks,
Bob
My Answer:
Hi Bob! I am assuming you meant inches ( " ) and not feet ( ' ) because as far as I know, Painter doesn't support sizes anywhere NEAR that large

Now, if you are working with an image, and it's original size is 24 x 18 at 360 DPI, then you can certainly blow it up to 72 x 54, but there's no question it's going to start dithering up. What you CAN do however is at the same time as you pump up the size, reduce the DPI level. I REALLY doubt that the printer that will be used to print this huge format even comes close to 360 DPI. In fact, I'm willing to bet you can get away fine with 120 to 150 DPI... so if you increase the image to the desired size but cut back on the DPI, you should be able to get away with it without too much distortion.
Good luck!
