More and more people are playing video games these days, so I decided to research this topic for my health project and wondering what the public's opinions are.

Is it good or bad?
How it might affects the brain?

Stuff like that. I have a couple sources already and need a couple more, so if anyone know some great websites about this topic, I'll be glad to hear them.

Thanks

Well, you gain faster reflexes. And like anything else, playing strategy games can just make you more intelligent...

I don't think that "violent games" has an effect on either someone will be violent in real life. It's not true that you will kill someone by playing a violent game, these persons had some "problems" before in my opinion.

While I am not in support of banning violent video games, you are wrong in your statement. The human mind is very much affected by what it sees in the media, sports, games, etc. Why do you think famous people endorse politicans? Becuase their fans will listen to them. Why do you think there is such an outcry about steriods? Becuase kids repeat what they see and think that it is alright. When a kid sees a video game that makes it alright to kill somebody, their mind could be turned to thining that it is all right. Regulations such as nobody under 18 purchasing M rated games without parent permission would help little in my opinion, but at least it would hold the parents responsable for the actions of their children.

I don't think they do, at the end of the day it's down to the person what their actions are. There are too many variables within life to pin-point what can cause peoples behaviours, it's all just theorys which have never been proven. As for killing, a video game can't influence that as i am actually behind the theory of everyone could kill somebody, its just triggering that spark.

Video games don't really influence people much in my opinion, i'll admit that strategic games could help sharpen up the mind along with given quicker reflexes, but if it does very little. I believe video games are there just for entertainment and nothign else, and like i said above people choose their own actions not a video game, movie, magazine, polotician, celebrity or whatever. The human mind is to complicated for scientists or phsychologsts to even understand they don't know what affects it.

Stuff kids see on TV and stuff doesn't really affect their judgement it's just an idea thats been put into someones head and then that person chooses whether or not they follow it and under different circumstances would you choose different options. Like i said above again, too many variables to dechiper anything to do with it.

James.

In my opinion it all depends on the persons persona and past experiences

Take virtual reality as a good example... one person can put the helmet/glove/suit or whatever involved on and believe they are in a real world instantly and get terribly scared, another person will know its not real and have all the fun in the world with it...

Your persona makes you react in different ways towards different situations, and so do your past experiences...

Take a death in the family, if your mother was horribly murdered (*touch wood*) when you where a child.. then experiencing someone being murdered in a simular way effects you differently than it would an average Joe and brings up different emotions...

Games have 'caused' deaths, or influenced them in some ways... thats without question, but they haven't made anything happen themselves. Games don't say "go out and kill 50 people" like some wackos claim, if you want to go out and kill 50 people... go buy a First Person Shooter game and go wild... others just let the fantasy take over them somewhat

A good friend of mine did a big paper on this so I have a good background of 'evidence' to base my opinion upon. Hope your research goes well :P

Great comments guys. I'm still not sure where I stand cuz I don't play games that much. However, right now I'm more on the side that video games might altered a person behavior a little, but not as much as killing another person.

They have been around for years, me I like the old games from the early 80's all these new ones make me ill I can only play so long and I get extremely ill on and off the PC like they throw my entire body balance off or something and make me feel dizzy for ages. They have warnings on some games for that reason for dizziness, nausea feeling etc they never used to have those.

I have a serious gamer in my house and they too are are also affected by the same thing on a few games they play, so how can these be that good for you if they have that effect on your body? So they do have some effect on your brain to throw your body balance off.

Kids are easily influenced and a lot of these games should not even be in a kids reach of playing, its upto the parents in what they let them have access too.
