I was wondering how to make swirls like in this artwork here. For this one, I know that they used fonts and melted them together, but is there another way to make a similar design in photoshop? Any help would be great.

I think there is a hol series of caligraphic brushes in photoshop.
Just pick some , resize and then paint away.
Since there on there own layer you can alter some characteristics afterwards.
Would do the thing in illustrator though.

But brushes are lame... :/ he's asking how to make the swirls, not how to use brushes.

I would probably draw out some swirls on paper and then pen tool them, but that's me.

And illustrator isn't raster-compatible, meaning no brushes.

We have tutorials already in our database with that effect, I cannot think atm what they call them to locate them for you but do a few searches am sure someone will post if they recall these but I have seen a few come through.

Its really not that hard actually, you just make rectangles different widths and lengths, then just goto Filter > Distort > Shear(might be different path don have photoshop on this comp) and just shear it how you want, you can also use the Twirl ? under the Distort also. Thats how I would do it...Then I guess import into Illustrator or w/e if you are doing a vector.
