Hi,

I am trying to make a template for my clan for joomla, an open source cms.

I am trying to find out how to make the following three effects as seen on www.greencats.ro

I know there are probably tutorials out there on how to do it, but I don't know the names of these effects and what not.

I am very new at this.

Tutorials in Gimp would be helpful, as I only use Gimp. However, I am sure I can follow Photoshop instructions on it.

You can make a 1px by 10px or whatever file and draw a gradient from gray to black for the menu header, then if you apply it as a background it will stretch so it fits the container.

the side border also seems to be a simple gradient, but I could be wrong... mmh.

For the diagonal lines, you define a pattern. this tutorial explains it: http://www.pixelfrea...main/?page_id=8 but it's for photoshop... there probably are corresponding tools in GIMP though ;]
