We wern't even allowed to use a calculator when I went to school so I agree with her lol

I remember I wasn't allowed to use a calculator in class until I was in high school.

it really depends on how you personally use notes... I personally, never use them inside class or for class

But like Jay said, if you are learning Computer Technology than it's a must to have a laptop ready to work.

But yeah, if you study biology or whatever, i see no point in having a laptop.
