Hi all.

I'm a total beginner in all things PHP/MySQL. I'd like to learn more about PHP coding and MySQL database but I don't know where to start. But those schmuck aside, which server should I install in order to be able to use PHP? I use Windows XP Home Ed. Can I install IIS, cause it seems easier that way?

And, if I choose to install IIS, how do I do it?

Thanks.
Milque

I don't know about IIS.

but you can install AppServ (apache, php and mysql)
It's very easy, install and you are done.

As far as i know IIS is used for ASP (but then again, PHP does run on windows, and something has to be used for that, right?). I would go with Apache. I've got no idea which is easier to install, but i'm sure you can find all the info you need at php.net: http://php.net/manua...all.windows.php (since you want to learn php, i recommend book marking php.net, it's a real life saver).

Thanks for all your opinions :) So, I've made up my mind. I'll go for Apache.

Is it advisable to install bundled up Apache, PHP, and MySQL? Will it also configure automatically?
I've tried installing Apache, PHP, and MySQL one by one into my brother's computer, but I messed up badly at MySQL ;) I'd really love to install all of them at once and have them configured automatically.

Thanks again!

No idea, i've never installed PHP myself, i've always used remote hosts with PHP and everything else pre-installed (go LAMP! *Linux Apache Mysql PHP ;)).
But i know i've seen some mention about packages that install everything for you (except maybe apache), if you do some searching in the php forums i'm sure you'll find something.
Also: http://www.pixel2lif...?showtopic=8980 has a couple links to said packages.
