does photoshop just suck a copying and pasting- or do i just not know how to do it?
i am trying to copy and paste object to be in the same layer. well i would like to know how to just copy and paste period!
Will someone please help me-Thanks.

copy and paste on a seperate layer then merge the two layers together

to copy and paste in photoshop hit Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V

That's because you have to select the area you want to copy first.
Hti ctrl+a first to select the whole layer and then copy

This is absolutly right!
The most important in Photoshop is selection. If something doesn't go as you wish, it's the first thing to check:
- is it the right layer selected?
- is it the right area selected?
etc...

This rule was number 1 in Photoshop 2 (and earlier version) when there was only background and floating selection.

It gets even worse,...
supose you got the right selection and all, but accidently you try to "click-drag" it to another file.
Imagine your suprise when you only see, you copied the selection (the contours) and not the actual selected image. This is because you also have to take the right tool for it: after you made your selection you have to choose the move tool and not the selection tool to copy it ! :(
