Do like me :P
I formatted extern HD's (80 GB and 250 GB) with windows, put on the sharing thingy (:)),
Then went to my mac and put a socalled "smb"-link to it, and after he found it, i made a shortcut on my desktop (of mac) and now when i double click on either icon he mounts the disk on the desktop, i can go straight to the HD.
Its imho the fastest way to share between mac and windows.

What you do is:
on your PC i made my "workgroup" = HOME, but i dont think you need that, since mac doesnt work like that.
Then you search for your ip address of you pc
on the mac you go to menu GO > Connect To Server;
then you click on (if necessary) the "+" sign;
then you put in the addressbar smb://192.172.123.100/HDdisk1 f.ex.
this would be with the ip address of your pc, and HDdisk1 being the name of you extern harddrive.
then click connect.
if you have pw's etc ... try 100 times to find right one :P and when he mounts the disk on you desktop, make a shortcut.
Thats all folks !!
greetz
