so im tired of this host that my school provided, its pretty cheap ( cant complain for something free) but yea i think im just going to buy something better. I was looking at server seed and it looks good to me, ill probalby just get the light server. but my bro says i should go with www.dreamhost.com which of the two would you go with. Ignore that fact that P2L uses server seed. Just compare the specs of each. I cannont tell which is better so im asking you guys for help :)

heres a chart of what dreamhost has to offer http://dreamhost.com...comparison.html

thank you

I would say it all depends on exactly how much space and bandwidth you will need. True, you might be paying lesser for more for the plans at DreamHost. I've not hosted with them before, but they sure look like they are overselling.

I've not been with serverseed as well but their plans look much more reasonable than DreamHost. 250MB Space is more than enough for a website too. Also, I would recommend getting a host that is local to your location. As in, if you live in the US, get a US based webhost. Uploading files will be much faster, contacting them for support will be much easier too.

Just make sure you get someone outside of the country to test the speeds.

Check out the companies' ratings in both their local Better Business (I can never spell this next word) Beuru (eh...) and on online directories for hosts.

Keep in mind, you generally will get what you pay for. I went with a cheap host for the first time, because they offered all sorts of goodness. I later found out that they had a track record of ripping off customers, over charging, not stopping the charges when the plan was ended, etc.

Right now, I am with Reyox (www.reyox.com), and they are fantastic. I have not yet had any downtime, customer support is great (usually get a response within 30 mins, via email) and has great features for reselling hosting to my clients. $20bucks us/mo.

Make sure you do your research before you buy...and stay away from anything that offers unlimited bandwidth...generally a sketchy deal there. Check out the systems of the company and make sure its not some dude running a server out of his basement.

I use powweb, I havent had any problems with them at all, except for one and that was only because the servers were being switched over so some peoples FTP addresses changed or something :P

www.surpasshosting.com is also pretty good. It's cheap, good support, and always fast. I've been with them for 2 years.
