This is my honest opinion:

While the first one is somewhat alright, the two others fail as a successful logo.

- They both are nearly impossible to understand. You just went over-board with the victorian.

- The second is poorly compositioned. There are uneven spacings, and seemingly randomly-floating laces. Honestly, it just looks like you threw together a few downloaded brushes.

There, my 2 cents.

Yup, I agree. As logo's the 2nd and 3rd aren't that great. As designs though, very nice. I took a design class and got blasted by my teacher for a logo I made because I did similar things you did. I had electricity circling through and around the logo, but it was way complex (not nearly as complex as your 2nd design though). Like yours, it looked nice, but not for a logo.

Look at all of the major comanies logo's. Stupid simple. Any kid with 2 hours of Illustrator experience can re-produce the Adobe logo. But anyone in the design industry knows the adobe logo. Thats what a logo should do...stick in peoples minds so that either when they see the logo they think of the company, or when they see things *like* the logo, they thing of the company. Its basically kind of like free subconcious advertising.

This can be applied across the board. Sony, Microsoft, your bank, etc...you pick a major company, you can bet they have a simple logo.

I like them all though the first one is the closest to a real great logo, the second I too see more as design than logo, but the third is also a good logo.

Good Job and keep it up!

Personally, i like the second one very much. And it actually IS a logo.. It's not a logo of the company, it's a logo of the band, as Bryn said. And that logo reminds me "Opeth". I like that band verrrrry much... Anyway, I really liked the second one Bryn. good job. keep it up.

am i the only one that doesn't like the 2nd or third one? the 2nd one IS NOT a logo, the 3rd one is a logo, but, my opinion, is its not cliche, but its not unique either.

the first one though, is decent.

I must agree with coolaid, as a piece of art the 2nd and 3rd look fairly good, as a logo I think you need to simplify them so it is more recognizable and acts as a specific identity.

yer bands are usually look for more artistic design logo's, they asked me to make a logo along the same line as that.
