Imagine you've got all these Neon signs - set in a cartoon street background - and they're buttons on a website;
Company....Mission.... Approach...Contact, etc...

From a design point of view do you have the neon signs flashing away - On and Off - or do you have them
flashing from one colour to another colour... OR....do you have them static...so that only when you do mouseover
they flash?

Would appreciate an opinion...

I would have them Flash On and Off.. and on a mouse over, they would start to flicker.

Hmm...the vision that popped into my mind is that the buttons are the neon signs without the glow, then on the mouse over, they flicker. Maybe a buzz sound too.

EDIT: I was really bored so I made this...

Maybe you should make it, show it and see who comments it. I dont think there would be a problem with flashing. color to color wouldnt be a problem, as long as the color scheme you change them too matches your site. when your links are hovered, maybe another effect.. like a turning effect or something like that.. and ifyou think your viewers wouldnt like it.. make an option to turn the flashing off.. in my opinions..

Another neon flashing example:
My Name in Neon

(Hoover over it, and then also try to click on it)

I like that, but I think it should be more random IMO.

Thanks for your replies...the examples posted are brill -

I followed one of the tuts that somebody had posted for animating a fade-in,
fade-out effect in Image Ready....and I applied it to my own little neon signs
but because I didn't have a clue how to align the letters in the original PS
image...{I'd nudged one of them into place manually}, there was a slight
wobble in one of the letters on the animation when the images were merged
...so the whole thing looks like something out of Playschool.

I can't post it in that state...so am trying to get rid of the wobble...just to be able
to present it...but I don't know how to upload an image yet.

BTW...I'm trying to build my own website in Flash...I'm not a designer ... I don't
know what Twodded means.

I've got all these ideas that I'd really like to explore but I'm not clever enough to
execute them...

Cheers

twodded is the pixel2life.com area that deals with their own made staff tutorials. http://www.pixel2life.com/twodded/
