Okay I am sorry if this has been posted before but I have gotten very frustrated with this.

Everytime I do avatars I either get a pure white background with the image in it. Or I get the image with a white outline around it.
This is really starting to get on my nerves since I can't post up any good avatars without that stuff being there. I have tried every type of file to put it a, gif. is the file type that all ways gives me the white outline, and just so you guys are aware I use photoshop for this stuff. Just for more info I am also leaving no background in the image, when I save it all that is there is the image and the grey and white boxes.

Please help me, if you need more info please tell me and I will put it up right away. But do please help, going to lose my mind soon.

Examples of this problem would be helpful... can you post a couple of sample pics for us?

gif only supports two transparency options, on or off. that's why you'r seeing the white line. you're creating an image with alpha transparency but ps can only save the alpha transparency as white.

you can save it as a .png or learn to get images to work with only the two opacities available.

transparent png's dont work in internet explorer 6 and below.

Like what everyone else is saying, that white line will appear when your saving a gif. you can try save it "save for web" and try playing with the controls keeping it to save as a gif.. maybe minusing as much colors as you can or png, ive had problems with pngs, loading not that quickly but thats only when its a large png.. hope this helps.. and dan your not dumb!
