Hey,

I have recently been just not bothered about webdesign and I don't know why during the first week of the Easter holidays I was really getting into it all and got quite a bit done and a few projects which I thought hmm not bad something to keep me occupied, busy and get me a bit of cash as well. Anyway last thursday I was just lazy all day and spent over 12 hours on forums like Neowin P2L and Sitepoint so I didn't get much done at all. As this all went on over the next two days I didn't update my site much and I did little on my huge PHP project which is still going and I could do with getting it done by Friday. So I don't know what to do or how to get re-motiviated as all I seem to be doing at the moment is nothing or posting on forums.

Should I just quit and forget about everything or carry and see if I get motivated again, I know what someone will ask 'is this what you want to do' and the answer is clouded but I want something to do with this area of computing whether it be programming or web development but I just can't seem to get off my ass and do it.

Any suggestions,
Dan Williamson

You can take a break from the things you like to do. I tend to take frequent breaks every once and awhile from the stuff I love doing. It helps keep me motivated and focused in the long run. You do not want to burn yourself out on your hobbies, believe me I know from experience.

dan you sound like me, I go through the same thing. I will be really motivated to make a website, or design one, and I will work for days on it, then I will just get burned out, and I will not wanna even look at it. I think the same goes for everybody.

i do this a lot myself. usually when i hit a problem i can tseem to get past and instead of voncentrating on the rest of the site i put too much attention into tryin to fix the problem in hand, thus boring myself into giving up on it...

I think that's the same for a lot of people, including myself. There was a 1-pixel jog issue that rendered in Internet Explorer and Opera when working on my website. I spent four hours messing around in my code and asking for help in online forums. Sadly, it was all in vain. The supposed 'fixes' that people recommended did not work, and everything I tried to do failed. Somehow, it has to deal with Internet Explorer and Opera rendering the page markup, and having the background kind of 'jog' in and out so it can be centered on the page, thus causing an unsightly 1-pixel screw-up in the site layout when the browser is resized in different windows. Aggrivating? You bet!

Money is motivation for me.
The more you pay me, the faster I'll get it done  :D
On my own sites, I always take ages finishing things.

I suppose I will get my head down on the bigger projects but i'm only young so I don't get many jobs and to be honest i'm not in it for the money as I will get the money in my later life I just want something fun to do =]

I read articles daily and I think they make me worse as i'm not too advanced and they always talk like SEO and stuff which I have done but am not good at then you need valid code etc it just makes me nervous and have to live upto other peoples expectations.

That's a pretty bad way to go about things. You have to be passionate about what you're doing and the other things will fall into place.

Personally money doesn't motivate me at all, doing work that I'm proud of makes work go faster for me.
