Please help me out with this Little(big?) problem. I record songs(some very old ones!) by playing them over the speaker. I used sound forges options to record speaker sounds. It was working along just fine.... Today, i finished recording a song and i used effects like "wave hammer" to enhance it(i normalized the effect!).After i exported the file to mp3, the following message was displayed "This file contained an illegal Marker or Region. The Marker or Region has been corrected". Fine, i thought... i played back the file and horrors! it was completely speeded up and garbled(i adjusted the speed but no result!). It has happened a couple of times, i am at a loss

1- during recording, don't do anything else that is browser intensive
2- remove all markers from the timeline
3- check your kHz Rate

Thank you for your reply! I also want to mention the following: When the file is exported to mp3, this happens. When i exported it to wave, nothing happened. Will try to follow up your suggestions and reply
Thank u once more!

To remove the markers, just right click on it and choose delete, or drag it away from the timeline.
Not sure now where to change the buffer settings.. need to install SF again to check that.. Have you already searched on SoundForge's support site?

I really do not know how to put this, but.. All the problems seem to have vanished just like that!!! I did another export to mp3 and changed the encode settings to "custom" encode at high quality and voila! everything worked just like normal(i personally thought that the plug-in had got corrupted or something!).
While we are at it, i would like to start a new topic about audio restoration.
I am a fan of western classical music. I got a a full symphonic collection in m4a(also know as apple loseless) format. Now, i would like to convert them to mp3 or wave or any other format. These are the options i have got:
1. Convert(encode) them to the required format (and lose quite a bit of sound quality!)
OR
2.Play the symphony/song/whatever on my speakers and record them. Enhance them with a few effects and then normlize them and then convert them(sounds good to me!)
Could u think of any other technique? or do you agree with me.Some tips would be great.

By converting m4a to wav you don't have a high quality loss.. you will not be able to hear that minimal loss..
1. you convert everything to .wav which is losless.
2. you use the 2nd method you mentioned.. which tbh I never did.

So, you're actually telling me that there will be noticable loss of sound quality if re-converting from m4a to wave, eh? will try to follow up your suggestions and try it out. By the way, i would personally like to tell you that the second technique does work wonders.(i Have tried it out many times!). Yes, recording any track through your speakers and enhancing or adjusting the sound quality does sound better than the original(not always!). For example, i was playing the track "Journey to Transylvania"(Van Helsing OST) and recorded it thru speakers. I gave it a few sound tweaks and ended up with a monstrosity which had a few clipping noises(moral of the story:never try to mess with tracks with high sounds of voices or instrumentation!
).
Of course, this option would require a lot of patience(but then, if you are a fan of music, what the heck?) and if there would be loss of sound quality, i would say that this option would be fine! Keep writing, man! by the way, what kind of music do u listen to?
