3DS Max isnt hard at all, theres an option to create hair on an object and you can change how it looks and the style and stuff...really easily...I dont have it installed, so yea, But I will install the trial and tell you B)

Okay well, I cant use 3ds Max 8 since my trial is up, but if you are using 3ds Max 8, there is a new built in feature called "Hair and Fur"...I would google it or look in the help files ^^

Since most UT mod makers here on the internet, make there meshes in maya, your best bet is to ask there for help:
Try to google something like: animation + ut2004 + unreal editor + maya r something.
maybe your luck will change.
I dont think anyone here (except you :) ) uses maya much.

For 3ds max (not sure about all versions) but on 7 and 8; you could use the ornatrix plugin for the hair; you'll find it if you google it up.

Greetz succes on making hair (and your cartoon :P)

The "hair and fur" addon for 3dsm is only only included in version 8 and up.

3dsmax7 has no hair plugin. The hair plugin for 3dsmax8 is tedius work, but it works.
The plugins are usually Environment settings, so you may have to know how to work with those before making hair.

Using 3rd party plugins use a TON of memory, its almost not worth it.

You could model a plane and enable backface rendering, and texture it with a good hair texture. give it an opacity map too.

So all we have to do now, is when we want to model hair (once erm... every 6 months or so), just buy 3DSMax 8 or beyond...

erm... what was the price again?
/hairs the price and dies from a hart attack :P
(playing with words :) , no typo )
