What size do you guys use? I've been going crazy trying to figure out what the standard for weblayouts is. I've been looking at tutorials everywhere and they all give me different sizes. So, what is the standard size of a website layout?

there is no standard!

theres fluid.

then thers those really tiny 500 px wide portfoli otype layouts.

then you got the 'best viewed in 800x600 res' sites that have a site width of 780 or so.

then you the the 'best viewed in 1024x768 res' which prolly have a site width of 1000px

Hmmm, well....I'm trying to create a gaming site. I've been working on so many layouts and scraping so many of them.

What size would be best do you think for a gaming layout?

Personally, I design all my pages for 1024x768 format, but the width can change a lot. My tip is to make a great page, with no restrictions, and then maybe optimize it later on.
I like to be as creative as I possibly can, and then optimize, it gives me the best result.

Personally I always use 800 or a little smaller if it is fixed, I wouldn't like to be on 800 screen go to a website and only see half the page, most would probably just leave, no one likes to scroll sideways lol. Otherwise I will do fluid so it fits all.

you just have to think about your audience. there gamers right? im sure they'll be up to date on graphics cards that can support 1024x768 minium layouts.

i would say go with a 1000px wide layout.
