Avalanche, .Matt... you legends

We aren't sure if we are having forums as of yet, but due to the high demand (around 9 out of 10 people ask me if there will be forums that are properly moderated etc.) we may just give in :)

Running a forum is something i've thought about quite seriously, and i've seen alot of forums go bad.. so the my-tuts team would have to be responsible for making sure that doesn't happen. We may do, we may not :)

Hopefully you will indeed have forums, just make your you don't over-moderate the forums and have a good team :D I will be there the day it's open :D

Picking a good team would solve the problem of over moderation (which i still havent experienced lol)

e.g not holding applications, but running it with the admins for a few months, and then offering a mod spot. Thats how ive done it before and its worked great.

I'm sure if you had them they would be fine :)

Well My-Tuts if was to open a forum i believe would just use their current staff and not need a moderation team such as P2L has instead would use the team of workers on my-tuts.

yeah exactly, a great team is a hard thing to pick but the My-Tuts team that has been assembled thus far have a wide range of experience of forum moderation/working on multiple things at once.

It's easy to put together a team that works the forums well as it's all about communication... no communication = total breakdown. The My-Tuts team talk everyday every time they are on-line so we don't suffer from this.

As I said.. we may do, we may not :) For now, discuss here:

haha, ok since this topic is determined to go off topic (anyone still wanna say bye speak up now :)) i'll put my small oppinion in.

The first time i was a mod on a forum was when i was 11, it was a free hosting board (of course lol) and that kinda shaped the whole way i did things from that point. Ive been "working" on there for about 3 years now and really does show you how different some people can be. The people (exisiting staff) helped me a lot and told me when i was doing something wrong.

Key point one: Tell people when they are wrong. If someone moderates something craply, tell them.

OK, achually, im finding this hard to type out correctly. Ill get to the point.

IMO experience is key if its going to be a big board and ust starting out. Hence i agree with you on only picking experienced people. However, leave a margin there, sometimes accept new people and dont be afraid not to accept someone as a mod just becauise of there age or experience. If they are contricuting well, go with it. Of course manage age with maturity (sp?) but you get what i mean. (e.g. im 14 and am admin on 2 boards [including the previously mentioned one] and have been mod on countless boards (ok, maybe not countless, but after 2 cheesecakes its hard to think).

Play people to their strengths as well, Global mods (more experienced), coding teams etc etc.

I'm gonna end this now cuz im finding my point hard to put accross in text, i think it all boils down to attitude. :)

Attitude towards something counts as everything, if you go into something arrogantly then you will probably fail, you need to go in positive but cautios, don't expect so much so quick you need to build things up.

I agree man, you should only use people you trust and that can actually be able to do the job.

My only enforced rule at My-Tuts. It's as simple as that.

As for the off topic.. I think posting on the blog post would be better, but your still showing you good byes by lending your advice and I appreciate that.

Someone once told me the greatest thing you can do in marketing is to attatch yourself with a great idea.

Antonio - not only are you showing your age but your attatching yourself to something that was never even discussed with you, let alone your idea.

Can someone close this topic already?
