How does Paypal work? Do I need to pay paypal anything? Give anyone my bank details? I would like to setup a donation service.

If you want to become a verified/trusted user or be able to accept credit cards you'll need to give them your bank/credit card details.
The same if you want to get a PayPal ATM/Debit Card you need to be verified.
You can just use it normally but they cut you off once the account gets to a certain amount I cannot recall what that amount is now but am sure if you read via the signup pages they'll tell you.
If users send you money Paypal does take a very small percentage, for you to pay out is free.

Yeah depending on the account type you chose they take a small percentage its arround 1% I believe it seems to be reliable, I use it often!

So it wont really cost me anything? It would cost the people whom donate? Even if I live in another country from US, in New Zealand. How does it work? Does the money that has been donated stack up until I choose it to go into a bank account, or something similar.

Paypal will take a percentage of what's paid to you.
