Hey!

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to make an object in a greyscale image become colourfull

Heres how to do it:

First of all grab yourself an image, I am going to use the Vrabel one:

Once you have your image. Dublicate the layer:

Once you have dublicated the layer, select the dublicated layer and do the following:

Click Image - > Adjustments - > Hue/Saturation - > Hue = -180 - > Saturation -100

This causes the dublicated layer to become greyscale or Black and White.

Okay, so you have your original layer which is colour and your dublicated layer which is greyscale..

Place the coloured layer under the Greyscale layer:

Now.. Select the Greyscale layer and select the ERASER TOOL:

Once selected.. start to erase the object/person you want to be in color from the greyscale layer..

When you are erasing you will start to notice colour coming through..

Then your finished masterpeice should look something like this:

I hope this tutorial wasn't too hard to understand as it is my first.. I hope you enjoyed it and you like the effect!

Thanks!

Nice effect, like in Schindler's List, but there's better ways than the eraser-tool, like selecting with magnetic lasso tool, or even better - selecting a path with pen tool and then delete. ;)

you could also invert the colours on the greyscale (ctrl+I) this would mean that it would just look cooler.

very goo effect, i would have cut out the guy with the polygon lasso instead of erasing him but we all work differntly :P
