hi, im quite intrigued by how design chapel do most of their wallpapers. i tried experimenting on some photos and trying to posterize them and then trying out the cutout filter but it didnt turned out so well. i also tried to tweak the photos or trace them using freehand and then enhancing their colors in photoshop, but it was quite tedious. i just want to know how might they have done it or come up with the wallpapers.

here's a wallpaper from the designchapel. hope someone could show me how they do it or a similar technique that i could use. thanks and hope you could help me.

Im not quite shure, it looks like a wide angled photo they have traced and coloured cell-shade style, or they could just have drawn it with or without vectors, in any case its neat and probobly short-cut free. Much in the talant of the artist there.

yea, this is most likely a vector.

This can't be done without lots of practise, the guy behind the Design Chapel is pro and know what he's doing.
Try experimenting with making vectors, maybe you can try a tutorial search, or check out the Ndesign studio illustrator tutorials. Good luck!

i think ive come a cross with somewhat a solution after a week of experimenting. ive tried first copying an image and desaturating it and performed a adjustments on its levels to bring some contrast. then i tried to use the cutout filter with a 8,2,2 setting (max number of levels, 2 on edge simplcity and 2 on fidelity). then copying that image and adding some gaussian blurr into it. then use the cutout filter with (6,4,2) setting this would make the edges round. ill then add some mask on the last layer and erase the super simplified areas specially in the face. after that. ill copy the original image and perform a cutout filter on it. ill combine the desturated images (images which was performed with cutout filter) and use some blending modes usually i prefer a lighten or dodged, depends on your liking. the fine lines would then be created by using a glowing edges filter on the desaturated image and put it on top of your layers stack. and use some blending modes usually lighten or dodge.

anyway..... though my tips sound confusing (im planning to create a detailed tute on this so you could see the result, sorry for the long confusing tip  ). the end result is a lightened version of the design chapel's model or design. maybe they tried vectoring, but i can still see that there are some areas in the pictures (at the rest of the site in the downloads sections or their wallpapers) that wasnt vectored. they might have used some filter techniques.

ey... if anyone of you out there could figure their technique i would be very grateful and most appreciative. it would greatly help me since im now shifting from modular and grunge type designs to the recent trend of pop art designs "popping" (that's so redudantly lame) in the net right now.

so again thanks guys for commenting.

keep designing and breaking boundaries!

sori for the late reply, i hope somebody still listens

after a week long of casual experimentation of the different combos of filters and blends this is i think as near as i can get though in the designchapel's technique. i have combined some cutout filters, levels, gaussian blurs and some blending option to achieve this.
it is somewhat of a pseudo vector art but has the some sweet effect.

hope you like it.

and this one's a good wall paper
