Hey , im new to the forum as you can see from my post count ^.^

Ok , when im working with max even though i have 1gb of ram which i consider quite good.. if i do a mesh smooth on something it will slow 3ds max alot!

i only know how to add more polygons (mesh smooth) , does anyone know how to make it into a low poly so i can keep max running smoothly . thanks :P

Dont know if this help, but when you apply mesh smooth, you can tell max to update the settings in the renderer(in the right parameter window). It is set to update always by default. By this way the viewports wont update the modifier and you can work on the modell and still render it in a smoothed version.

I think the function is called "LOD" (level of detail), but i am not sure since i dont really work often with 3DSMax.

Simply select the edges one by one which you think are waste and click remove in the editable mesh or poly properties in the modify panel of the control panels. Do this until you have the desired number of polygons.

LOL, k
Supose hes got 120 000 polygones and he wants an actual count of 10 000 --> you may do it.
Still its a way that always works on the other hand.

Another thing to remember is that when you model something in Max, you have to model it in low - poly and apply mash smooth or turn on use subdivision surfaces for polygons.

Looked it up: sry LOD plug-in is nothing for you:
it just draw the background in less detail, so it can renew more quickly, like in-game...

In the meshSmooth roolout change the Iterations to 0, its under the Subdivision amount. This will keep the image low poly but make it nice and smooth witout adding the poly count to it.

In the meshsmooth rollout theres a thing called render iterations. Check the box next to it then its exactly the same as the other one except it'll only show in the render. Then the other 1 will be 4 in the view port :(

there is a modifier in 3ds max call 'optimize' ... you can reduce the poly count with that.
