Not into C4D im afraid. However i would box model it and finnish it up in zbrush using maya or 3ds, but thats just me. Cant see C4D to be all that different. Using a photo or sketch to model after makes life easier also, one for each axis with the same propotions is the best iof you can find or create it. Search the index for box modeling tutorials.

I use c4d every day, I'm not the best but I'm pretty good, never tried doing a snake but I dont think it would be that hard, you should start with the head and a symetrical modelling style, adding the body is simple.. I would just try your best and post up pictures of your progress on here and we can give you tips, because I dont think there are any tuts on snake making and I doubt anyone will make any.
You could also try going about it the same as someone modeling a human, just apply the same basic technique just use pictures of a snake instead of the human head, its the same basic process..

Yep, box modelling, starting with very easy primitives.
Think you should make a silouette first (3 vieuws) and use them on 3 view ports as a background, so you have a reference to work with. You use a cube f.ex., then hypernurbs to smooth it and the scale and move tools to model.
Takes a lot of patience though (but i know theres a dolphin tutorial somewhere doing the same thing).
