I believe you're talking about it showing up in FireFox, as it doesn't show in any other browser for me (don't have opera, so can't say anything about that). And it shows in the URL for me, but those are minor details.
Personally, i would check the mozilla website and see if they have anything specific to say. I'm sure it has something to do with a link tag, but don't quote me.
p.s. Moved topic.

In firefox (if we are talking FF),
The RSS icon appeared in the bottom right until FF1.5 when it moved to the right of the address bar.
It cannot be moved by the link tag because its fixed by the browser.

Still assuming we're talking about FF, we're not talking about moving it, just simply getting it to show up
I brought up the location thing, because some people might be using the new version, and be looking at the bottom right corner of the browser without knowing it's been moved.

OH lol!!!!
Ok, well,if you just want to make it appear linked to the RSS feed, use this:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Feed title" href="url" />
These can be stacked to have 2/3/4....rss feeds
ROFL. Cant believe i went on about icon locations lol.
