User-Aware Scripting

How would you do user-aware scripting, for, say, a web design website, which logs a client in and informs him/her of his website's progress, comments, etc? I would prefer PHP scripting, if you please.

Just script it in PHP, I'm not completely sure what you mean but it can't be a different way of scripting your PHP source because a user will never get to see that part.

Why not take the easy way out as your not going to have many websites at once are you as the workload would get to much. Create an image saying there progress and keep the PNG or PSD if your using Photoshop so it's easily editible and then display it as an image on the homepage of their profile which you set up from the user system.
