In a word, No, Corel draw is a vector based program and things work a bit different than photoshop. However Photopaint does have a maquee tool to select parts of or all of the image as in Photoshop.
You can nevertheless extend select items such as objects, nodes etc, while holding down the shift key.
See the help file with CorelDraw or Purchase "The Corel Draw WoW Book", it has loads of tuts and valuable information!

Just a quick note on this... Photoshop ppl... you want to use Corel Photopaint, not CorelDraw for this stuff. CorelDraw is desktop publishing for printed media like Illustrator. For web and on-screen graphics, it's all about Photopaint.
