Hi guys thx for reading..

well im trying to start a community based on the "indy" music genre and its not going so well, so far i have a couple of members and a mod, thing is the guy thats the mod said he's help me get some publicity and stuff and work hard on the forums but its been about 5 days and he's posted once, so i see im going to have to do it all on my tod, but that not too bad..

I am also trying to script a website for the forum but im learning coding as i go along so its going to take forever to get done.. see but i want to get a small community up before i get really stuck into the website so that all my hard work wont be wasted.. cause posting the site may not get me any more visitors than i currently do..

I found some funds and i can host a competition for one person to win an album of their choice so my question is:

Is it worth running a competition with so few members?
What kinda things shud i run the competition on? (i want it to benefit the community greatly, and also benefit the winner) i was thinking a few reviews or something but im really not sure..

thx for any advice in advance jamie

From the sounds of thing your intiative to get the site going is good. That's your first start.. so you should be able to get the site going.

The competition sounds like a good idea. It might not be much, ( or may) but I think it's a good start. Maybe wait however before you start, and get the word out on the competition on the community, and other communities.

Most guests join the site basically to gain experience, or something worth being their for ( hence competition=reward!) .. The competition could be things such as tickets, or Music, Free Downloads, or something of the sort.. just something small for now depending on how you wanna look at things.

Writing reviews, or display pictures, and or advice to people (I guess that's a review lol) is very well worth typing out, since people like to read things that interest them, and if you can make it interesting or the possibility of them gaining something etc, will help out majorly in getting the site running.

P2l is just like that.. Great Contests, Great Articles, and a great community!

Somethings to look at.. I bet even though your community doesn't have anything to do with gfx, it's good you came here, since P2l is one of the popularist site out there ( is popularist spelled right? or even a word lol)

Anyways I could totally be talking out my butt, but in my own opinion .. you sound like you want it to work, and you want the site to grow into something amazing and so with that way of thinking you should be able to succeed.. and with those funds, I think you could think up a great competition(s) .. and even though there might not be many, someone might win and then tell others!.. and it grows -_-

thx man, that was a very detailed answer

see here i have a £15 gift voucher for amazon in my name so i was looking to get a £10 and a £5 music voucher for itunes but they dont seem to sell english ones.. also not everyone uses itunes, so i guess allowing an album of thier choice between now and november (cause thy may have all the stuff out now) cause it expires in december lol...

well currently my forum is pretty empty (well its almost just me posting), so maybe hosting a competition for a band review of thier choice, maybe this because i can still use the reviews that dont win and the wniner will gain a cd...

thing is, how long should i host the competiton for? becuase i dont want to host it and have noly 2 entries cause i'd feel thats a waste.. and the entry date is very final..

also what methods of advertising do you propose?

word of mouth and visiting music forum and just any forums in general?

i have joined a general music site and im hoping the specificity of the music genre of the forum may grab a few ppl..
I am really looking for just one person from the uk really into the music so that we can get some content in the forum.. then i may start getting busy but all the ppl that agreed have let me down.. but ill stick at it, i have time to think abit more about this competition ill get back to u guys if i have anymore ideas..
